JESUS LOVES ME! In my opinion, one of the greatest songs ever written is, “Jesus Loves Me”. What a tremendous work that conveys the power, grace and love of Christ all in a few simple notes and words! It is usually the first song we teach to our children. We all need to remember those words when we are feeling down on ourselves, or negatively toward someone else. But sometimes, the simplest remedy of remembering these things is the furthest from our minds. I used to sing this song to my boys when they were little and I knew they were feeling down. I sang it often to them at bedtime as well. I wanted them to remember that even when they might think that nothing else is stable in their lives or that they were unlovable, that Jesus was always there. I want them to draw on that all of their lives. They are both college age now, and love the Lord. But I know they still need to remember these things. We all do. Most of us know the words to the first verse of the song, as well as the chorus, but few know the other verses from memory. I want to share with you the two other verses I found. “Jesus loves me! This I know, as He loved so long ago, taking children on His knee, saying, ‘Let them come to me.' “Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way, wanting as a friend to give light and love to all who live.” God wants us to come to Him. He loves us SO much. He calls us to Him. He wants to give us life – abundant life. (John 10:10) His love is so much deeper than any of us can imagine. Yet sometimes we forget. We need to keep His Word, and words from songs like this ever before us, so that when we go through moments of forgetfulness or despair, we can draw on His love for us and realize that nothing else really matters but that love. He sees us through things. He walks ahead and behind us as we walk through things. He holds our hands, and touches our hearts when we need His touch. Yes, Jesus loves us! How do we know? There are many ways we know. But one way I know and have experienced is that the Bible shows time and time again the love of God for His children, even (and in spite of) when they least deserve it. How do I know? “The Bible tells me so.” In this season of “love” as Valentine's Day is celebrated in the world, remember the greatest Love ever given for you. Receive that love in your hearts, and thank Him.
