Freedom In ChristFreedom is something that we may take for granted until we lose it. In a court of law in the United States a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The prosecution has the burden of proving the guilt of the accused. There are many factors that come into play during a trial. There is the matter of witnesses and evidence that are the strongest factors that can prove the guilt or innocence of the defendant. However, witnesses have been known to observe the same incident and have differing conclusions and evidence can be mishandled and an innocent person can be convicted of a crime. Potiphar's wife falsely accused Joseph of seducing her and he spent time in prison. Jesus was also falsely accused, spat upon, beaten and crucified. However, due to Christ's victory over sin and death we are now reconciled with God our Heavenly Father. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:9-11 Just as a released prisoner relishes his freedom and wants to leave a life of bondage behind, so does the sinner set free from the bondage of sin. A person being led by the Spirit is no longer a prisoner following the minute observances of the law. Through faith in Christ we have been set free from sin, we are no longer in bondage! We now live freely, no longer held captive by the flesh but free to live in the spirit. We have true relationship with God though faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and we are then able to express our faith through love. You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Galatians 5:13-14 What better way to enjoy our freedom in Christ than to serve and love others?
