“Concerning Him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain,

Since you have become dull of hearing.”

Hebrews 5:11

My physical ears have become “dull of hearing” over the years. In fact, I had lost 95% of my hearing in my left ear and 45% in the right. I've prayed for years for my hearing to be restored, but not long ago God reminded me that sometimes He heals through an instant miracle, sometimes we are healed gradually, and sometimes we are healed through doctors…but they are all miracles of healing from Him. So I finally made the decision to seek out medical help. The decision was made to do surgery on my left ear with the hopes of bringing my hearing up in that ear at least by 50 percent. It's been two weeks after the surgery and I am hearing things I had all but forgotten. I'm amazed every day at such simple things. I'm amazed that I can talk on the phone using my left ear. I'm amazed that I can hear road noise while riding in my car. I think the most amazing thing is when I sing and I actually hear my voice…makes me cry every time.

As I've started regaining my hearing God has spoken to me and told me, “As I open up your physical ears, I am also opening up your spiritual ears to new levels.” Oh, to hear your voice more clearly, Lord!

Our spiritual ears can gradually become dull if we are not careful. We can let the sounds of this world drown out the sound of the Savior's voice. I did not lose my hearing all at once, but gradually. I really didn't even notice how much I had lost until I was almost completely deaf! Left unchecked, we can gradually lose our spiritual hearing as well, not even noticing how dull it is becoming until it is almost gone. We cannot grow content with our “loss of hearing” but must seek the Great Physician's help in restoring and improving our hearing.

Sometimes it is easier to be content with the loss. I don't have to worry about my husband's snoring keeping me up at nights. The kids can listen to their stereos and TVs loud and it will never bother me. The dog can whine all night when there are storms and I can still sleep like a baby. But oh, I've missed out on so much. If our spiritual ears become dull there may be things we are glad we cannot hear. We may be thankful we've missed the time God asked us to give our last ten dollars to that single mother at church. We might be thankful that we've missed out on the sleepless nights when God has called us to wake up and pray for those who are hurting. The cries of the lost may have gone unheard, and left us content with not hearing them…for if we hear, we might be expected to do something. But what blessings have we missed out on as well?

Yes, hearing will require action. But action brings about results, and results with God always bring about blessings. So open up my ears, Lord, physically and spiritually. I don't want to miss a single blessing, a single miracle.

When is the last time you've had a spiritual “hearing test”? Have your ears become dull in hearing? The Great Physician has the cure.

My Princes…

Hear My Voice

My sheep listen to my voice;

I know them, and they follow me.

John 10:27

I am always here for you. I'm never too busy to talk to you, My beloved. If you will turn off the things around you that drown out My voice, you will begin to hear Me in your spirit. When you don't know where to go, you will hear Me give you divine direction. When you are in need of a friend, you will hear Me whisper, “I am here.” When you need comfort, you will hear Me call to you, “Come to Me.” Don't let the voice of your own uncertainties distract you from My still, small voice. Quiet your spirit, and know that I am your Heavenly Father and you are My precious daughter – and I love when you listen to Me.

Love,

Your King and the Voice of heaven
