PSALM 8

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!....When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?...You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.” Psalm 8: 1, 3-4, 6-8

This Psalm has been one of my favorites for many years. It gives us a picture of how big and mighty our God is. It is a Psalm of praise. It's amazing to me to think of how God created the vast universe. There are galaxies out there we are just finding out about! Yet, He is the same God who created the small birds, animals, fish, insects….and He created man – in His image. He made us to rule over everything He created. He loved us so much that He gave us dominion over all creation. It's so far beyond our understanding that He has made such a complex universe filled with huge planets, yet made the animals and plants that He did. Our minds are finite, but God's is infinite! He is so much bigger than we can imagine.

Spring is my absolute favorite time of year. Nature is beautiful, no matter what time of year, but the springtime is most special to me. I love to see the first crocus bloom, then the daffodils, the hyacinths, and the tulips. I remember several years ago, going outside in the springtime and smelling the hyacinths. They have such a fragrant aroma. I was amazed. I stood there and asked God, “How do you do that?” How does God put the fragrance in the flowers? He gives us so much to enjoy. He gives us all of nature. He made the vast blue sky, the tall trees of every kind, each species of animal, the plants and even each blade of grass. His love is the reason He decided to put all of this here for us. I don't know how He did it. He's so much bigger than we are. But I'm so glad He did. He did it all for our enjoyment. He has done all of these wonderful things, yet He still thinks about us. In fact, we are so much more important to Him than all of these other things. I am so thankful for that. His love is so much greater than we can ever imagine.
