AT YOUR SERVICE
What would happen if we spent our lives attending to God, listening for His voice? Running and jumping to do whatever He said, the moment we hear and recognize Him.
What if we attended to God like the wait staff at a fine restaurant, anticipating His every desire? We are so quick to ask God to attend to us, do this for me Lord, change that, get me out of this mess.
Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord.
Waiting on the Lord does not mean you sit and do nothing because God is going to do it for you. It's true that there are things only He can arrange and bring about. However until we see the manifestation of what we are praying for, we should stand at attention waiting to hear if God has any requests to make of us. Just like the wait staff with a towel over their arm anticipating your desires before you ask. I'm not talking about works, I'm talking about the possibility that we may have a role to play in getting our own prayers answered.
When we realize that we need God's help, we usually need it right now, right? There are times when He needs you right now. Staying in tuned to His voice is a very important part of getting our prayers answered.
We love to stand on the promises of God. The things He has already said we could have as His children. However, we need to remember all of the times God warned the children of Israel not to forget Him when they came into the land He had promised to them. We know that is exactly what they did. They wanted a king even though God told them it wasn't a good idea. So after He gave them what they wanted, just about every other king they had was evil. They were led away from God by the very thing they asked for.
When we make requests of God, first we need to make sure it lines up with His Word. God's Word is His will. Then we can stand on it and put our faith out there to receive it. Some situations we face today are not cut and dry in the Bible. If we can't find specific scriptures to address our need, we may need to ask God if the desire we are requesting is in line with His will. We don't want to be led away from God by the thing we requested of Him.
Ask God today if He has a role for you to play in getting your prayer answered other than standing and believing Him. You might be surprised to find out that just the right word or even a change in the way you look at the situation might be the missing link.
