Levites by Faith

This year I have been going through a study of Moses' life. My children are also going through this study on a level they can understand. It can be tricky in discussing their questions sometimes because there is so much depth and meaty goodness on which to chew. I'm grateful that the Bible study we are in breaks it down to their level and then gives me some helps along with my Bible study so that I can help guide and teach them at every level of their understanding.

According to Hebrews, those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are a chosen nation, a royal priesthood. It seems overwhelming when you look back in Exodus and Leviticus at the duties of the priests and all the laws they had to remember and then teach to the Israelites. I realize that those laws are well…very detailed to say the least, but they were in place to show the Israelites and everyone else that there was no way we could ever get to heaven on our own merits. God's standards are too high for us to reach on our own. In that realization, He has given us a hope through Jesus Christ who was the perfect sacrifice, the only sacrifice necessary to cover all our sins – past, present and future. How awesome!

I'll admit when I started to read Leviticus, I did so with a ho-hum kind of attitude. At first I found it tedious and I thought of it as a chore I had to do. I soon realized the importance of the book and it filled me with awe and humility as I read all that God detailed out for them, for us. It made me realize that those priests were given the awesome task of teaching God's laws to His people. Because we are Levites by faith, royal priests, we have been given the awesome task of teaching God's laws to others: new Christians, fellow believers and for those of us who are parents, our children.

I did a little research and found some wonderful websites to help us as priests and parents to fulfill our task:
