Living From the Inside Out

DEPENDENCE DAY

The month of July is the time of year that we celebrate Independence Day. The fathers of our land signed the declaration of Independence and our great country was officially established. Laws were made to govern and protect our freedom. However, we realize that true freedom has never been free. Someone has had to pay a great price so that others can live a free life.

In much the same way, our freedom from sin came at the price of Jesus dying on the cross for us. Giving up Himself so that we could go free. Coming to earth to live as a man and die as a common criminal, all because we needed independence from sin.

When we become a Christian we declare our dependence on God. We realize that we are in need of Him and His help. What a precious time of surrender that is. We exchange our old ways of doing things for a new better way. We become a brand new creature in Christ. Our spiritual location changes even though we stay in the same physical location. Even the heavens rejoice and celebrate the day of our new found dependence on God instead of ourselves.

As you celebrate Independence Day this year, take time to reflect back on the precious day of surrender when you gave your life to Jesus and realized you had the need to be dependent on Him. That became your dependence day.

If you have never done that, it is as easy as saying, Jesus I need you to forgive me and free me from my sins, be the Lord of my life, being dependent on myself has not worked, I surrender to You Jesus.

A simple prayer takes us from being bound up in sin, to being able to live in all of the glorious freedoms that Jesus died to give us. He paid the price. For us to live in less than everything that He bought and paid for says that we do not place much value on the price He paid. Getting to heaven is the main goal here, but we must realize that there is so much more to the salvation that Jesus purchased than what we take advantage of.

Psalms 103: 1-6 Bless the Lord O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits. Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

This is a benefit package like no other. Thank you Jesus that a life surrendered to you is a free life worth living. I make a declaration of dependence on you today.
