"Colossians 2:14"

TULSA, Oklahoma
United States

When I was 12 years old I attended kid's camp at Tulakogee. That year, I felt God's calling on my life to become a children's praise and worship leader. I went home and immediately began learning to play the guitar (I already knew how to play the piano). I asked my children's pastor if I could help with the worship in children's church, and she willingly agreed. I soon became the children's praise and worship leader for my church. I recently stepped down from that position after four years of volunteering in the ministry.

In the fall of 2005 I was asked to lead the worship for the Craig Mayes Baptist Association's children's camp in Disney, Oklahoma. It was my sophomore year in high school and I quickly began seeking out band members.

The following spring I heard three of my schoolmates; Donnie, Jared, and Cody, playing in our annual talent show. At the time, they were playing in a band of their own. I approached Jared, who happened to be my lab partner at the time, and said, "Got any plans for the summer?"

We immediately began the short, three-month process of putting together a children's praise and worship band.

After leading the worship for the camp in the summer of 2006, the band that is now known as Crossout, exploded into something way more than I ever expected.

We soon began getting asked to play at churches all over NE Oklahoma, and eventually asked to play at Oklahoma's largest children's camp this summer where we have seen a total of around 3,500 students.

I am now nearly 18 years old, and God has blessed my ministry in more ways than I could ever imagine. I remind the students every chance I get of the verse in 1 Timothy 4:12 which says, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.” The verse really hits home for me because of the living testimony in me of how I began at such a young age.

Ok there's that, now here's what Crossout means….

Crossout is based off the verse in Colossians 2:14 that says, “He canceled the record that contained the charges against us, he took them and destroyed them by nailing them to Christ's cross.” So in essence, Jesus Christ “crossed out” our sins by leaving them at the foot of the cross.

We currently target children but are interested, and are already beginning the process, in doing some youth-orientated events.
