Heart Notes Extended

What does “What Would Jesus Do?” really mean?

For some, it is just a popular catch phrase, something to wear on a bracelet or T-shirt. Instead of just wearing “WWJD” on our wrists or on our clothing, we need to actually think about what Jesus did and how we can immolate that in our lives. In order to do that, we have to go back to the Bible and read about how Jesus treated others; how He showed humility; how He served; how He glorified God; how He prayed and how He sacrificed. We need to focus on His characteristics and then we need to adopt those same characteristics and apply them to our lives. We need to strive to imitate Jesus in all that we do.

Today I am going to give you some scriptures that I want you to look up in your Bible, and read for yourself. I am not going to post the whole verse, because I think we need to spend some time studying these verses and then I am going to share a poem with you that I found. So I am going to challenge you today to first pray and ask God to show you the things in your life that are keeping you from showing the world “What Jesus Did” and then ask Him to help you to change those things and become a reflection of the image of Christ. I know that I, for one, have got a lot of work to do in that area. So let's begin with prayer and then focus on several of Jesus' characteristics that we can strive for in our lives.

·          Humility – Philippians 2:5-8 – God blesses those who show humility!

·          Service – Matthew 20:28 – Is your life characterized by a servant's heart?

·          Glorify God – 1 Corinthians 10:31 – Jesus came to earth to glorify His Father. Everything we do should be done to glorify the Father.

·          Prayer – Mark 1:35 - What a prayer life Jesus experienced! He was in constant communication with His Father and often got up early in the morning to talk with God. Do you enjoy constant fellowship with God?

·          Sacrifice – 1 John 2:2 – Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice! He gave His life so that we (sinful beings) can spend an eternity in heaven with Him. He provided His life – the ultimate sacrifice of His life – as a free gift to all who believe! When was the last time you sacrificed something for someone else? When was the last time you gave up something for God, a friend, or a complete stranger? God wants your sacrifice. – Romans 12:1

What Would Jesus Do?

Author Unknown

Lord, throughout this day, as I try to follow you,

Let this be my rule to live by:

What Would Jesus Do?

When a friend or loved one asks me for a moment or two,

May I think of one thing only:

What Would Jesus Do?

In all my dealings, help me to be honest, fair and true,

To measure each decision by:

What Would Jesus Do?

When I'm feeling troubled and I turn in prayer to you,

Give me wisdom to decide:

What Would Jesus Do?

Then when the day is ended, may I resolve anew

To guide tomorrow by the motto:

What Would Jesus Do?

One last thing I want to leave you with is this:

“Your walk talks and your talk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks.”

Are you living the talk that you talk, or are you saying one thing and living another? Just think about it and think about what areas of your life need to be changed and then pray about it and ask God to help you to change so that your walk and your talk say the same thing.
