Take Heed What You Hear Moses received special instructions concerning holy anointing oil that was to be used in his day. It was to be a special, sacred perfume that was to be placed in the Temple. One of the ingredients in this anointing oil was onycha, which was extracted from a shellfish found deep in the Red Sea. It got its fragrance from the things that the shellfish ate. Just as the shellfish, the fragrance we put out to others is found from the things we “take in” to our inner man. And what we hear will determine what is given to us in terms of blessings. Jesus said, “Take heed what ye hear. With what measure ye meet, it shall be measured to you; and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given; and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.” – Mark 4:24-25 (KJV) And in Matthew 13:12, He said, “For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance, but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.” What we feed our spirits comes through what we hear. It is important to be very mindful of what we hear; of the things we read, the things we watch on TV, the people we associate with as friends, etc. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” God's revealed Word does not come to us by education, but by revelation. “Deep calls unto deep.” (Psalm 42:7) And when God's life is poured into us, the anointing will flow like rivers of living water from us. (John 7:38) Our “fragrance” from feeding on the Word of God, will flow like living water to everyone around us. But there is a condition. Jesus said, “If ye abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” When His words abide in us, they are what will flow from us and they will be what we hear, because we will be “tuned in” to those words. We must abide in Him. We must behold Christ and heed His Words to us. When we do, what flows from us to others, will be a sweet fragrance that will be irresistible to the world around us. |
