Heroes!

You've heard it said, “Don't tell about politics or religion.” Well, I guess I'm about ready to stir up the hornet's nest for sure!

It's always been a mystery to me why our country sends off such young men and women to fight in war. Why not send old—er. . . I mean mature guys like me and let the young ones have a chance to enjoy their life before they make a sacrifice for our country? I mean I could carry an 80 lb rucksack in the desert heat! Right! About 2 feet!

My wife and I recently attended the funeral of a soldier killed in Afghanistan whom we have known almost his entire life. He was one of the finest young men I have ever encountered. I'm told that he set an exemplary standard for all the soldiers in his command, as well as his friends and family back home. He will be greatly missed.

So no matter what your political persuasions are, I hope you will join me in my campaign to thank every soldier whom I encounter. Regardless how you feel about the war, please do not take it out on the soldier! He or she is doing their job to the best of their ability to protect your freedom.
